moon
Acting as a shepherd moon, Prometheus constrains the inner edge of Saturn's F Ring; unlike its neighbors Pandora, Janus and Epimetheus, its surface is noticeably less cratered.
Discovered by the Voyager 1 science team in October 1980.
An extremely irregular, potato-shaped body with visible craters up to about 20 km across.
Likely a porous, icy body of low density.
Named after Prometheus, the Titan of Greek mythology who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity.
