asteroid sample-return probe (NASA)
The first U.S. mission to return a sample from an asteroid: in 2020 it collected rocks and dust from the surface of Bennu.
Launched on September 8, 2016, it arrived at asteroid Bennu in December 2018.
On October 20, 2020 it briefly touched Bennu's surface and collected a sample (the TAG maneuver).
It left for home in May 2021, and on September 24, 2023 its sample capsule landed at the Department of Defense's Utah Test and Training Range.
After the capsule release, the spacecraft was renamed OSIRIS-APEX and sent to asteroid Apophis, which it will reach in 2029.
