Named after an Etruscan-Roman underworld deity, a kind of 'dark mirror' to Pluto.
Its one known moon, Vanth, is roughly half its size.
Water ice and ammonia hydrate have been detected on its surface, suggesting past geological activity.
Based on its size and brightness, it is one of the largest known classical Kuiper Belt objects.
