moon
Haumea’s larger, outer moon spins surprisingly fast, once every 9.8 hours or so, while it takes 49 days to circle the dwarf planet: it is not tidally locked.
Discovered in 2005 and named after Haumea's mythological daughter, patron goddess of the island of Hawaii and of hula dancers.
Follows a nearly circular orbit with an eccentricity of only about 0.05.
Hiʻiaka and the smaller Namaka orbit close to an 8:3 mean-motion resonance with each other.
Its surface is dominated by water ice, consistent with both of Haumea's moons having formed from a collision-generated debris disk.
