dwarf planet candidate
One of the reddest large bodies in the Solar System; its slow spin was probably braked by its moon, Xiangliu.
Discovered in 2007 by Megan Schwamb, Mike Brown and David Rabinowitz.
Named after a Chinese water god said to have thrown the heavens off balance.
Its one known moon, Xiangliu, is named after a mythological companion of Gonggong.
Its reddish surface color likely comes from organic compounds (tholins) altered by solar wind exposure.
Its highly inclined, elongated orbit is typical of 'scattered disk' objects.
