On February 1, F1 was rocked by the news that seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton would join Ferrari from 2025, activating an exit clause in his Mercedes contract, the announcement added a billion dollars to Ferrari's market value within 24 hours. After a major upgrade introduced in Miami, McLaren clawed back a 115-point deficit and went on to win the Constructors' Championship at the Abu Dhabi finale, its first title in 26 years, finishing just 14 points ahead of Ferrari. Verstappen claimed his fourth title in the least dominant season of his championship run: he won seven of the first ten races, then went ten races without a win as Red Bull lost its edge, ultimately relying on early-season points banked rather than outright pace. China returned to the calendar after a five-year absence and immediately hosted a sprint race as part of an expanded six-event sprint format. Max Verstappen won the 2024 Drivers' Championship with 437 points (Red Bull), 63 points ahead of the runner-up. McLaren won the Constructors' Championship with 666 points, 14 points ahead of the runner-up. Across 24 completed races this season, there were 54 retirements. 7 different drivers won a race this season. Max Verstappen took the most race wins, 9 in total. Verstappen won the season-opening race, the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Canadian Grand Prix saw the most retirements of the season, with 5 drivers failing to finish.
