His first name 'Lando' comes from his Belgian mother Cisca's family tradition, not from the Star Wars character Lando Calrissian, as he has had to clarify repeatedly. He started karting at age eight at Clay Pigeon Raceway; because he was too small for the seat, his team used Velcro to hold him in place, and his helmet carried a sun design honoring his childhood idol, MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi. On the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix podium, he accidentally broke Verstappen's winner's trophy, worth around $45,000. He took his first Grand Prix win at Miami in 2024, after 110 races and 16 podiums, tying the record for most podium finishes before a maiden victory. In 2025, after falling 34 points behind following a retirement at the Dutch Grand Prix, he fought back with wins in Mexico City and São Paulo, then clinched his first world championship in Abu Dhabi after a bruising title battle with teammate Piastri. Lando Norris has been racing in Formula 1 since 2019 as a British driver. He won the World Championship once, in 2025. He scored a total of 1616 championship points over his career.
