He came up through the Ferrari Driver Academy and won the 2016 Formula 3 European Championship by a record margin of 187 points. At just 18, in his debut season, he scored a podium at the Baku Grand Prix, becoming the second-youngest driver ever to stand on an F1 podium. In 2019 his father bought the Racing Point team, later rebranded Aston Martin, and placed his son in the car, intensifying accusations that Stroll was a 'pay driver'. In 2020 he claimed his first pole position in wet qualifying conditions in Turkey. At the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, a moment of him visibly bouncing over the curbs went viral and became an internet meme. In 2023 he suffered a cycling accident that fractured his wrist and required surgery with metal screws, yet he continued racing that season. Lance Stroll has been racing in Formula 1 since 2017 as a Canadian driver. He scored a total of 325 championship points over his career. His best season was 2023, when he finished 10th in the championship with 74 points.
