At the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, the Lotus 49 made its debut together with the revolutionary Ford-Cosworth DFV V8 - fitted not as a conventional bolt-on unit but as a stressed, load-bearing member of the chassis, a configuration and engine that would define Formula One for decades. Jim Clark won on the very first outing of the new car and engine. At the Monaco Grand Prix, Lorenzo Bandini's Ferrari crashed into the barrier at the harbour chicane on lap 82 and overturned in flames - the fire partly fed by straw bales lining the track; Bandini died three days later from his injuries, and straw bales were subsequently banned trackside for good. Denny Hulme won the championship with the Brabham team, racing alongside his own team owner, Jack Brabham. Denny Hulme won the 1967 Drivers' Championship with 51 points (Brabham-Repco), 3 points ahead of the runner-up. Brabham-Repco won the Constructors' Championship with 67 points, 23 points ahead of the runner-up. Across 11 completed races this season, there were 108 retirements. 6 different drivers won a race this season. Jim Clark took the most race wins, 4 in total. Rodríguez won the season-opening race, the South African Grand Prix. The South African Grand Prix saw the most retirements of the season, with 12 drivers failing to finish. Oliver made the biggest gain of the season at the German Grand Prix, from grid position 19 to finishing 5 (up 14 places). The season's biggest upset win came from Surtees at the Italian Grand Prix, starting from grid position 9. The closest finish of the season came at the Italian Grand Prix, with a gap of just 0.200 seconds. The most dominant win of the season came at the Mexican Grand Prix, with a margin of 85.4 seconds. Clark won the Mexican Grand Prix, the final race of the season.
