Race summary

Verstappen won the race from 1st on the grid, 3.744s ahead of Alonso. Gasly was the standout mover, climbing from 12th to 3rd. Russell lost the most ground, from 3rd on the grid down to 17th (down 14 places). The safety car was deployed on laps 16-21 and on lap 66. A virtual safety car (VSC) period was in effect on lap 63. The race was stopped with a red flag on laps 64-65. The race started dry but rain fell as it progressed. The winner made 6 pit stops: on lap 2 (soft → intermediate), on lap 11 (intermediate → soft), on lap 49 (soft → soft), on lap 61 (soft → intermediate), on lap 63 (intermediate → wet), on lap 64 (wet → intermediate). The fastest pit stop went to Verstappen (Red Bull) on lap 49, with 18.7s pit lane time. Alonso set the fastest lap, in 1:13.837.
