Force India was placed into administration in 2018 because of owner Vijay Mallya's financial and legal troubles, but a consortium led by Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll bought the team's assets. The original racing entry, tracing back to the 1991 Jordan Grand Prix, could not be transferred to the new owners, officially ending the continuity of that long F1 lineage. The team raced as 'Racing Point Force India' for the rest of 2018 and then simply as 'Racing Point' from 2019, debuting under the new name at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix. In 2020 the RP20 car stirred controversy, widely nicknamed the 'pink Mercedes' for its striking resemblance to the title-winning Mercedes W10; Renault filed an official protest over the copied brake-duct design, and Racing Point was fined €400,000 and docked 15 constructors' points. In December 2020, at the Sakhir Grand Prix, Sergio Perez claimed the team's first - and only - win as Racing Point, also the first win for any incarnation of the team since Jordan's 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix triumph. After Lawrence Stroll acquired a 16.7% stake in carmaker Aston Martin, the team continued from 2021 as Aston Martin F1 Team. Racing Point's Formula 1 history ran from 2019 to 2020, 2 seasons in total as a British team. The team scored a total of 268 constructors' championship points. The team's best season was 2020, when it finished 4th in the Constructors' Championship with 195 points.
