British · 1959–2026
Aston Martin's first Formula One campaign was short-lived: it debuted its own DBR4 at the 1959 Dutch Grand Prix, driven by Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby, but the car was already outdated compared to its rivals by then. The 1960 DBR5 brought no breakthrough either: its heavy front-mounted engine was an ever-growing handicap against the spreading rear-engined designs, and the team failed to score a single point across both seasons. After two unsuccessful years, Aston Martin withdrew from Formula One to focus on sports car racing, disappearing from the grand prix grid for decades. The brand returned in 2021, after Lawrence Stroll's 2020 investment and takeover of the Racing Point team saw the outfit switch to British racing green and adopt the Aston Martin name. Stroll launched major investment: a new roughly 37,000-square-metre factory near Silverstone was built with its own wind tunnel, and the team signed a string of big names, first Sebastian Vettel and then, in 2023, two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso. In 2025, legendary designer Adrian Newey joined the team as Managing Technical Partner and later became Team Principal, while the Formula One outfit switched to works Honda power units from 2026, now with serious championship ambitions. Aston Martin has been competing in Formula 1 since 1959 as a British team. The team scored a total of 598 constructors' championship points.
