French · 1984–1994
Photo: Stanoux · CC0He started out as a political science student before dropping out to learn to race at the Motul Racing School in Nogaro. In 1983 he finished third at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Kremer Porsche alongside Michael and Mario Andretti. In 1986 he stepped in for injured driver Jacques Laffite at Ligier after Laffite crashed at the British Grand Prix, showing a marked improvement over his earlier years with weaker teams like RAM. He found more success in sportscars than in F1, finishing third in the championship for Jean Todt's Peugeot team in both 1991 and 1992, with third-place finishes at Le Mans both years too. Philippe Alliot made his Formula 1 debut in 1984 and raced until 1994, 9 seasons in total as a French driver. He scored a total of 7 championship points over his career.
