Canadian · 1976–1979
The team was founded in 1976 by Austrian-born Canadian oil magnate Walter Wolf, who bought a 60% stake in Frank Williams Racing Cars and acquired the assets of the defunct Hesketh Racing and Embassy Hill teams. Based in Reading, England, the team nonetheless raced under a Canadian racing licence. At its very first race, the 1977 Argentine Grand Prix, Jody Scheckter won outright in the WR1, an extraordinarily rare feat for a brand-new constructor. Scheckter added wins at Monaco and Canada in 1977, finishing runner-up in the Drivers' Championship while Wolf took fourth in the Constructors' standings. Chief engineer Harvey Postlethwaite designed the entire WR1-through-WR9 line of chassis for the team. By 1979, after Scheckter left for Ferrari, James Hunt and Keke Rosberg suffered repeated retirements; Wolf then sold the team to the Fittipaldi brothers, who folded it into Fittipaldi Automotive. Wolf raced in Formula 1 from 1976 to 1979, across 4 seasons as a Canadian team. The team scored a total of 79 constructors' championship points.
