Irish · 1991–2005
Eddie Jordan entered Formula One under an Irish racing licence in 1991, even though the team was actually based in Silverstone, England; the debut car, the 191, ran Ford power. Michael Schumacher made his Formula One debut for Jordan at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, stepping in for the jailed Bertrand Gachot, only to be poached by Benetton before the next race, triggering a legal dispute between the two teams. Damon Hill claimed Jordan's first Grand Prix victory at the wet 1998 Belgian Grand Prix, with teammate Ralf Schumacher completing a 1-2 finish. The 1999 season was the team's peak: Heinz-Harald Frentzen won two races, and Jordan finished third in the Constructors' Championship while Frentzen finished third in the Drivers' standings. The team's distinctive bright yellow-and-green livery, paired with Benson & Hedges sponsorship from 1996 to 2005, gave Jordan one of the most recognisable identities on the grid. Facing financial trouble, Eddie Jordan sold the team to the Midland Group in 2005 for 60 million dollars, ending the original Jordan squad's 15-year Formula One run. Jordan raced in Formula 1 from 1991 to 2005, across 15 seasons as an Irish team. The team scored a total of 291 constructors' championship points. The team's best season was 1999, when it finished 3rd in the Constructors' Championship with 61 points.
