Argentine · 1950–1960
Photo: Unknown author · Public domainGonzález's win at the 1951 British Grand Prix was Ferrari's first Formula 1 race victory - at 28 years and 282 days old, the Argentine driver became, at the time, the youngest Grand Prix winner ever. His stocky build and aggressive driving style earned him the nicknames "El Cabezón" ("Big Head") and "the Pampas Bull." He remained close friends with fellow Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio throughout his life, and the two even shared a Simca-Gordini at the 1950 24 Hours of Le Mans, though the car retired with engine failure. He did cross the finish line at Le Mans in 1954, though: partnered with Frenchman Maurice Trintignant, he won the legendary endurance race outright. José Froilán González raced in Formula 1 from 1950 to 1960, across 9 seasons as an Argentine driver. He scored a total of 72.14 championship points over his career.
