His F1 debut came in extraordinary circumstances: with barely any preparation he stepped in for an unwell Alexander Albon at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix, reached Q2 and finished ninth, earning Driver of the Day. His 2023 season with AlphaTauri started badly, going ten races without a point while teammate Yuki Tsunoda regularly scored. He was dropped after those ten pointless rounds and replaced by Daniel Ricciardo, with Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko openly criticising his form. After leaving F1 he returned to Formula E with Mahindra and joined Toyota's endurance programme, winning the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans with his co-drivers. Nyck de Vries made his Formula 1 debut in 2022 and raced until 2023, 2 seasons in total as a Dutch driver. He scored a total of 2 championship points over his career. His best season was 2022, when he finished 21st in the championship with 2 points.
