SKY EVENT · Meteor shower peak
The Quadrantids meteor shower peaks on 3 January 2030 around 21:53 UTC. Under dark skies and ideal conditions up to ~80 meteors per hour can be seen (ZHR). The radiant, the point in the sky the meteors seem to come from, is at about 15.3 hours right ascension and 49° declination.
Visibility from Hungary (calculated for Budapest): the best moment to observe is 4 January 2030, 06:08 CET: the target stands 70° high in the east, under a dark sky. The calculation is for Budapest; elsewhere in the country rise and set times differ by only a few minutes.
In the page's interactive 3D model the time machine jumps to this moment (3 January 2030) and the camera takes the view that fits the event: a sky view from the visitor's city or Budapest. You can freely scrub time forwards and backwards.
Meteor shower peaks are computed from the Sun’s ecliptic longitude, based on the IMO meteor calendar.
