Italian · 1980–1990
Enzo Osella founded his team in Volpiano in 1965, initially racing Abarth sports cars before moving into single-seaters in 1975. Osella made its Formula One debut at the 1980 Argentine Grand Prix with its own FA1 chassis powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV engine. Team driver Riccardo Paletti was killed in a start-line accident at the 1982 Canadian Grand Prix, one of the most tragic moments in Formula One history. The team's first championship points came from Jean-Pierre Jarier, who finished fourth at the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix. Piercarlo Ghinzani's fifth place at the 1984 Dallas Grand Prix rounded out Osella's entire Formula One points tally, just five points from 132 race starts. In 1990, Enzo Osella sold his stake to metalworking magnate Gabriele Rumi, who took over the team and relaunched it as Fondmetal, ending Osella's Formula One story. Osella raced in Formula 1 from 1980 to 1990, across 11 seasons as an Italian team. The team scored a total of 5 constructors' championship points.
