American · 1966–1968
Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby founded All American Racers in 1964; for the Formula 1 programme they set up a British subsidiary, Anglo American Racers, based in Rye, East Sussex, while the cars themselves were built by the American parent company in Santa Ana, California. The team debuted at the 1966 Belgian Grand Prix with the Eagle T1G, initially fitted with an already obsolete Coventry Climax engine. For 1967 they gained a purpose-built 3.0-litre Weslake V12, designed by Aubrey Woods, a significant technical step forward for the team. At the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, Dan Gurney won the race - the first victory by an all-American constructor and driver in a Grand Prix since Jimmy Murphy's win for Duesenberg at the 1921 French Grand Prix. That win remains one of only two Grand Prix victories ever scored by an American-licensed constructor in Formula 1 history, the other being Team Penske's win at the 1976 Austrian Grand Prix. The team scored 4 points in 1966 and 13 in 1967, before withdrawing from Formula 1 for good after the 1969 Canadian Grand Prix. Eagle-Weslake's Formula 1 history ran from 1966 to 1968, 3 seasons in total as an American team. The team scored a total of 13 constructors' championship points.
