British · 1964–1969
Jack Brabham and Ron Tauranac founded Motor Racing Developments Ltd. in 1961; the Brabham Racing Organisation made its Formula 1 debut at the 1962 German Grand Prix in a bought-in Lotus chassis, before introducing its own Climax-powered BT3 midway through the season. The team was notably conservative in this era, sticking with traditional spaceframe construction while rivals such as Lotus had already moved to monocoque chassis. In 1963, with Dan Gurney joining as teammate, Brabham finished third in the Constructors' Championship with 28 points. In 1964 Gurney scored the marque's first two Grand Prix wins, at the French and Mexican Grands Prix. Despite reasonably strong form, the team was repeatedly hampered by reliability problems that cost it better results on several occasions. Brabham-Climax raced in Formula 1 from 1964 to 1969, across 6 seasons as a British team. The team scored a total of 60 constructors' championship points.
