Circuit info

Circuit Park Zandvoort

Zandvoort, Netherlands
Lap length: 4.20 km
Elevation change: 9 m
Lap record: 1:11.097 (Lewis Hamilton, 2021)
This layout was in use during: 2021-2026.Circuit diagram: ROY Jules (julesr0y) (CC BY 4.0). source & licenseOther known layouts at this circuit: 2021-2026 · 1973-1985 · 1952-1953,1955,1958-1971
Interesting facts

The circuit was carved into the Dutch coastal dunes using roads originally built by the occupying German army during WWII; the first race ran here on 7 August 1948, and it remains the only genuinely seaside venue on the calendar. Turn 1, the Tarzan corner, is named after a local resident nicknamed 'Tarzan' who, according to circuit folklore, gave up his vegetable garden for the track in exchange for having a corner named after him. The layout has been substantially reconfigured six times; the most drastic change came between 1990 and 1998, when it was shortened to almost half its length, down to 2.526 km. The 1989 rebuild moved the southernmost part of the track away from the neighbouring housing estate specifically to cut noise for local residents. The track has seen two fatal crashes: Piers Courage in 1970, when a suspension failure sent a wheel into his head, and Roger Williamson in 1973, whose tyre failure caused a fire that fellow driver David Purley tried, unsuccessfully, to fight alone. For the 2021 return, two corners (Hugenholtz and the final turn) were rebuilt with 18-19 degree banking so cars could run side by side through them. On its 2021 comeback after a 36-year absence, Max Verstappen won in front of his home crowd, the first Dutch driver ever to win or even podium at his home race, with 195,000 fans attending over the weekend. The current contract between the Dutch Grand Prix and Formula 1 is set to expire after 2026. You'll find it in Zandvoort, Netherlands. On the calendar since 1952, this circuit has hosted 36 races, the latest in 2026. Alberto Ascari took the inaugural win here in 1952. Lando Norris won here most recently, in 2026. The most successful driver at this circuit is Jim Clark, with 4 wins. Ferrari is the dominant constructor at this circuit, with 8 wins. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap here, 1:11.097 (Mercedes, 2021). The highest speed measured over a race weekend here was 350 km/h.
