We don't have our own real GPS-telemetry-based 3D model for this circuit (typically a pre-2023 or discontinued venue). The outline below is a freely usable, hand-drawn circuit diagram. This layout was in use during: 1994,1997.Circuit diagram: ROY Jules (julesr0y) (CC BY 4.0). source & licenseOther known layouts at this circuit: 1994,1997 · 1986-1990At the 1997 European Grand Prix, the season finale with the title on the line by a single point, Michael Schumacher turned in on Jacques Villeneuve's Williams as it dived past at the Dry Sack corner; the move backfired on the Ferrari, Schumacher retired on the spot while Villeneuve cruised home to the title. The FIA later investigated the incident and struck Schumacher's result from that year's championship standings. The circuit was built in 1984-85 in Andalusia, opening on 8 December 1985. The 1986 Spanish Grand Prix produced what was then the closest finish in Formula 1 history: Ayrton Senna beat Nigel Mansell by just 0.014 seconds. It hosted the Spanish Grand Prix from 1986 to 1990, before Formula 1 moved to Barcelona-Catalunya, partly because of Jerez's remote location and the logistical strain on spectators. A chicane was later added at the corner where Martin Donnelly suffered a career-ending crash in 1990 qualifying. After chaotic scenes at the 1997 podium ceremony, Jerez was effectively barred from hosting another World Championship round, though it remained a regular Formula 1 preseason testing venue until 2015. The circuit is located in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Formula 1 has raced here since 1986, with 7 races held so far, most recently in 1997. The first race here was won by Ayrton Senna, in 1986. The most recent winner here was Mika Häkkinen, in 1997. Ayrton Senna has won here more than anyone else, 2 times. Among constructors, McLaren has been the most successful here, with 3 wins.
