Interesting facts

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit was designed by Carsten Tilke, son of veteran circuit architect Hermann Tilke; construction began in March 2021, and the track opened barely nine months later, on 3 December, in time to host the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix just two days after that. At 6.174 km with 27 corners, it is the third-longest circuit on the Formula 1 calendar, behind only Spa-Francorchamps and Las Vegas, and it's also the fastest street circuit on the calendar: the 2025 pole lap averaged 254.6 km/h. At the penultimate race of the 2021 title fight, Max Verstappen slid off at the final corner in qualifying, handing pole to Lewis Hamilton; the race itself had two red-flag stoppages, and on lap 37 Verstappen suddenly braked ahead of Turn 26, causing Hamilton to run into the back of him. Stewards penalized Verstappen. In 2022, just three months after the venue opened, a drone attack struck a Saudi oil facility barely 16 km from the circuit during the practice weekend; drivers debated for more than four and a half hours before agreeing to race. That same weekend, Mick Schumacher suffered a heavy crash in second qualifying and was taken to hospital for scans; though cleared to race, Haas opted to run only his teammate Kevin Magnussen, to save the limited spare parts he'd need for the following Australian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton set the official race lap record at the 2021 Grand Prix, clocking 1:30.734 in his Mercedes-AMG. The circuit is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Formula 1 has raced here since 2021, with 5 races held so far, most recently in 2025. The first race here was won by Lewis Hamilton, in 2021. The most recent winner here was Oscar Piastri, in 2025. Max Verstappen has won here more than anyone else, 2 times. Among constructors, Red Bull has been the most successful here, with 3 wins. The lap record here is held by Lewis Hamilton, at 1:30.734 (Mercedes, 2021).
