Circuit info

Scandinavian Raceway

Anderstorp, Sweden
We don't have our own real GPS-telemetry-based 3D model for this circuit (typically a pre-2023 or discontinued venue). The outline below is a freely usable, hand-drawn circuit diagram. This layout was in use during: 1973-1978.Circuit diagram: ROY Jules (julesr0y) (CC BY 4.0). source & licenseOther known layouts at this circuit: 1973-1978
Interesting facts

The Scandinavian Raceway was built on marshland in southern Sweden in the late 1960s, with part of the layout running along an airport runway. It remains the only Nordic venue ever to host a Formula 1 World Championship race: the Swedish Grand Prix was held here six times, from 1973 to 1978. The 1976 Swedish Grand Prix brought the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 its only win: leader Mario Andretti's Lotus retired with engine failure, letting Jody Scheckter take victory from pole with teammate Patrick Depailler completing a Tyrrell 1-2. In 1978 Niki Lauda won here in the notorious 'fan car' Brabham; scrutineers actually ruled the car legal, but under pressure from rival teams, the team withdrew it voluntarily, making this its only race victory. The Swedish Grand Prix vanished from the calendar for good after 1978: within a matter of months, home hero Ronnie Peterson died from his Monza crash injuries and Gunnar Nilsson succumbed to cancer, and the resulting collapse in Swedish enthusiasm for Formula 1 followed. After Formula 1 moved on, the circuit went on hosting motorcycle racing, touring cars, GT racing and superbikes; today it stages the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. The circuit is located in Anderstorp, Sweden. Formula 1 has raced here since 1973, with 6 races held so far, most recently in 1978. The first race here was won by Denny Hulme, in 1973. The most recent winner here was Niki Lauda, in 1978. Jody Scheckter has won here more than anyone else, 2 times. Among constructors, Tyrrell has been the most successful here, with 2 wins.
